Disability: "We are not born disabled, we become disabled by an environment that denies us."
French writer, analyst, and lecturer, Capucine Lemaire is the founder of the international NGO Disability Policy Observatory, director of the disability museum draft The Sixth Continent, and editorial board member of the Neurodiversity Review at Montreal University (Canada). "We are not born disabled, we become disabled by an environment that denies us." "Committed for ten years to gender equality first, for which I interviewed Hillary Clinton in 2016 for the magazine 'Women Side' which I directed from 2014 to 2018, and then with the Jean Jaurès Foundation (France) in 2019 about Holocaust memory, I now work alongside the UN, the WHO, and the European Parliament to innovate at the legislative level for the independent life of people with disabilities and against their segregation thanks to DPO, an NGO I founded in 2021. I am a consultant for companies and organizations. I am also a member of the editorial board of the Neurodiversity Review at Montreal University. I lead: • Hephaistos, center and its review about international disability studies (now created) • The Sixth Continent, a disability museum draft, and its podcast (autumn 2024) As an author and art historian, I contribute to reviews, newspapers around the world, and collective books about independent living, education, sexuality, and more. My research work focuses on 'art and education inclusion' and 'anti-ableism as an anthropological struggle and fight against segregation.' I also contribute to research groups such as the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in France.
